The Best of Suchma

The history of the Harrisburg Independent Press would not be the same without the work of Gene Suchma. Gene was our cartoonist for most of HIP's life. He designed cartoons to illustrate many articles and he also designed strip cartoons related to important events of the day. Gene was an excellent cartoonist, illustrator, and artist and HIP was fortunate to have him on our staff. I have searched the issues and have come up with the "Best of Suchma."

Gene was born and spent his youth in Cleveland, Ohio. He worked as a freelance artist for over 30 years. In the Harrisburg area, he also painted murals. You may remember the one at Our Daily Bread restaurant in Paxtang. Gene also helped found Londonderry School. He taught art in the Harrisburg schools, the State Correctional Institute, and local Catholic schools.

Gene passed away in November 2017 and is survived by his wife Margaret and three children.

Please enjoy the "Best of Suchma."
